Honoring Outstanding Student Achievement in STEM

We are proud to share that the Keystone Teachers Association was a sponsor of this year’s Capital Area Science and Engineering Fair, where we had the opportunity to support and celebrate outstanding student innovation.

Steven Shulz, a KEYTA Board Member and former Physical Science and Chemistry teacher at Manheim Township School District, served as a Fair judge. As part of our involvement, he also presented three exceptional students with certificates and $100 awards on behalf of the Keystone Teachers Association, recognizing their excellence in scientific research and real-world impact. This year’s selected projects showcased remarkable depth, creativity, and technical rigor. The following student projects were selected for recognition:

Multi-modal Prediction of Laryngeal Cancer Recurrence
Applying data-driven and multi-modal modeling approaches to improve cancer prognosis and patient outcomes.

Temperature-Dependent Microstructural Regulation of Biomass-Derived Hard Carbon Anodes for Sodium-Ion Batteries
Exploring sustainable energy storage solutions through advanced materials science.

Finite Element and Machine Learning Modeling of Autogenous Self-Healing Concrete
Combining engineering and AI to enhance infrastructure durability and longevity.

These projects represent the kind of forward-thinking work that inspires the next generation of scientists, engineers, and problem-solvers. We are honored to support students who are tackling meaningful challenges across energy, healthcare, and infrastructure.

Congratulations to these students. We look forward to seeing where your curiosity and innovation take you next!
