Earlier this month, the State Board of Education, Department of Education and the Pennsylvania School Boards Association came to a compromise regarding state mandated graduation tests. Under the plan, beginning 2015 potential graduates must either take a series of “Keystone Exams” or a district created equivalent as long as it meets independently validated academic standards. A recent Penn State study concluded that many graduation tests currently utilized by school districts fail to adequately measure student competency in math and reading.
