Professional Development Extension Reminder

Publication of School Director Email Addresses
The PA Senate recently approved House Bill 703, which would require school districts and charter schools to publish on their websites an e-mail address for each of their school board members and trustees.  These addresses may then be used by school staff, students, and members of the public to communicate with individual directors and trustees regarding matters of school governance. HB 703 was sent to the Governor for his signature on October 22, 2020, but as of this date, no further action has been taken.

Bill Protecting Young Sexual Assault Victims Advances to the Governor
The PA House unanimously voted to approve Senate Bill 530.  Under the bill, a student who has been convicted of a sexual assault must be expelled or transferred to another building or program if the victim is enrolled in the same K-12 school system.  Parents or guardians registering a student in a school district are also required to provide information if their child was previously or currently expelled for this offense.  The bill was sent to the Governor for his signature on October 26, 2020, but as of this date, no further action has been taken.
