PA Supreme Court Voids Statewide Mask Mandate

On December 10, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court agreed with the lower court’s ruling that PA’s acting health secretary did not have the authority to impose a mask mandate for K-12 schools and childcare centers.

This means that the mask mandate has been dropped, effective immediately.

Now that the PA Supreme Court has voided the statewide mask mandate, school systems are again charged with determining if their local mitigation plan will require students, school staff and visitors to wear a mask or if it will be optional.

Since the pandemic began, the Keystone Teachers Association has taken the position that the best way to deal with COVID-19 is at the local level. We have never taken a statewide position on masks or vaccines.
