Union Notifies Teachers of Forced Fee Amount

Non-union educators in union shop school districts will soon receive notice from the Pennsylvania State Education Association and the National Education Association that their forced dues payments will soon begin. Here in Pennsylvania, non-union educators in union-shop school districts will have to pay approximately $460.00 this school year to fund union activities that they don’t agree with. If you are teaching in a school district that is still free from this union fee, thank your school board members for not taking away your right of freedom of association.
If you are a KEYTA member who teaches in a school district that allows the union to charge this fee, we will be sending to you soon instructions on how you can divert your entire union fee to a worthwhile charity.
KEYTA’s position has never been against teacher unions, but rather against forced unionism. Whatever the reason, every teacher has a right to decide whether or not to financially support an organization. However, when the collective bargaining unit inserts “fair share fee” clauses into teacher contracts, this directs school district personnel to extract payments from the paychecks of non-union teachers and have those funds automatically forwarded to the union. These taxpayer dollars are earmarked toward educating students and teacher compensation, not to the union. Once you take away the personal choice, it’s now a taxpayer liability, redirected through the paychecks of the educators.
School districts do not have to continue to let the unions force it’s teachers to pay the union fee. If you teach in a union-shop school district, inform your school board members that you want your rights restored and the “fair share fee” clause removed from future contracts.
Those who truly believe in what they are saying and doing would never have to force those beliefs onto anyone else. Forceful action is actually a sign of disbelief in the power of what you say you believe in.
