On November 23, the Wolf Administration announced that Pre-K to 12 public schools in counties with heavy COVID-19 caseloads are going to need state certification if they plan to offer in-person instruction.
Schools that have been in the substantial transmission level for at least two consecutive weeks are required to commit to safety measures to ensure the safety and well-being of their students and educators or move to full remote learning without extracurricular activities.
Across Pennsylvania, 59 of the state’s 67 counties have now had substantial spread of the virus for at least two weeks.
The deadline to notify the PA Department of Education of their decision to educate fully remote or in-person is November 30. Schools that will continue in-person education must also show how they plan to do so safely, by providing an “attestation form” outlining the safety measures they are taking.
Detailed information regarding these updated requirements are located on PDE’s website.
