KEYTA Points to Ponder -Third in a series of things to think about

NEA: Columbus OUT, Indigenous Peoples IN
KEYTA Offers an EQ or Two

“…the name of the current holiday known as “Columbus Day” should be renamed and recognized as “Indigenous People’s Day” in recognition of the early indigenous peoples who were living in the United States before colonization by European settlers.”   -from the 2019 NEA Convention

Essential Question:
Did the United States exist before 1492 (and colonization by European settlers)?

Some Other Essential Questions:
Can you compare and contrast the contributions of these Indigenous Peoples who were living prior to 1492 to those of the European settlers to our national government?

Would we have cell phones, glasses to wear, universities and hospitals, cars to drive, planes for travel, books to study or states to be united?

Which nation’s history does the National Education Association wish to celebrate during this national holiday?

KEYTA does not use members’ dues to dismantle national holidays.
