The Pennsylvania House failed to override Gov. Tom Wolf’s veto of a bill that would have given school districts final authority on running sports events and admitting spectators during the coronavirus pandemic.
However, despite the failed override, school districts have the right to permit more fans in the stands in the wake of a federal judge’s ruling that invalidated statewide pandemic limits on crowd size. The PA Department of Education has asked schools to voluntarily comply with the Governors previous gathering restrictions, which had been set at 25 indoors and 250 outdoors.
PIAA’s executive director, Robert Lombardi recently stated “if schools decide to increase the 25/250 limits, they should exercise caution and good judgment in setting numbers for attendance at indoor and outdoor sports”.
