Last Week President Barak Obama stressed his support for teacher compensation plans that would link teacher pay to student achievement gains.  Beginning 2006, the US Department of Education has allocated nearly $200 million in grants issued through the Teacher Incentive Fund. Obama further cited that he believes that teachers should be given more pay based not on how long they have been in the classroom, but on how well they do to increase student performance.   The recent stimulus plan allots an additional $200 million to the program, bringing the total funding to $400 million over the next two years.
