Happy teacher week! I trust you had a great week, making that final push before Keystones!
I am back in the classroom again (maybe someday I will really retire). Another “retired” teacher and I have been splitting the duties of a full-time person since January. Please indulge me as I share an amusing experience from when I covered another class.
I was subbing for a teacher last week and I could find neither the class roster nor the seating chart. So, I had students write down their names. After I gave the students their assignment, some of them dispersed to an adjoining room to work. As the period progressed, I realized there were 16 names on this sign-in sheet, but only 15 students were physically present in the rooms. After fretting for half an hour about where the missing student was, I asked students to look at my list to see who was missing. One group of boys threw their friend under the bus and ratted on him. This boy then admitted that he had written an extra name on the list, and I hadn’t caught it. Problem solved! Had I looked at this list more closely, I may have caught the irregularity. I hadn’t noticed this extra “student” on the sheet, whose name was “Chris P. Bacon”!
As the end of another school year approaches, we at KEYTA want to thank you for all your hard work this year. Take time to enjoy your students. Most of you will acquire a new batch in the fall and may not ever see some of these students again. Please do not give up on your students. I know that sometimes it seems you want your students to pass more than they themselves want to pass. You may be some students’ only cheerleader. Hang in there for a few more weeks.
Then, relax a bit and rejuvenate a lot this summer!
Again, thank you for all you do for your students! Happy teacher week!
