New Teacher Evaluation Process Passed into Law

Teacher Evaluation 

The new law reduces the emphasize on student test performance and increases the weight of classroom observations.  The changes are as follows:

  • Increases classroom observations and job performance from 50 percent to 70 percent and is comprised of the following breakdown:
    • Planning and preparation (20% weight)
    • Classroom environment (30% weight)
    • Instruction (30% weight)
    • Professional responsibilities (20%)
  • Student performance shall now be comprised of 30 percent and encompasses the following breakdown:
    • Building-level data shall be one-third of the student performance component measure and include the following areas, if applicable:
      • Student performance on assessments administered to the grade level in the building.
      • Value-added assessment system data.
      • Graduation rate.
      • Attendance rate.
      • The building-level data factor will also be adjusted based on the percentage of students that are economically disadvantaged in a school.
    • Teacher-specific data shall comprise two-thirds of the student performance component measure, including student achievement as measured by the following scores where applicable:
      • Fifty percent from student performance assessment data and progress in meeting the goals of students with individualized education plans.
      • Fifty percent shall be comprised of one or more measures as applicable and selected by the school administration from the following:
        • Locally developed school district rubrics.
        • District-designed measures and examinations.
        • Nationally recognized standardized tests.
        • Industry certification examinations.
        • Student projects pursuant to local requirements.
        • Student portfolios pursuant to local requirements.
